It’s silly, it’s over the top, fast-paced, funny and there’s a lot of delicious food on page. ![]() I’ve read a few Culinary Cozy books in the past and this one definitely fits right in! ![]() It’s no secret that I love Cozy Mysteries. Thus begins a super fun and witty amateur sleuthing trope. Her family had nothing to do with it, which means a killer is still out there. Now the police consider Lila to be their number one suspect.Īs it seems all local law enforcement are wasting their time investigating Lila and her family, Lila knows she needs to get to the bottom of what happened to Derek herself. However, she would never expect Derek to fall face first into his dessert. When Lila’s ex-boyfriend, Derek, a local food critic with a terrible reputation, shows up for dinner with their landlord, who also happens to be Derek’s step-father, Lila knows stuff is about to hit the fan. Her Auntie never focuses on those details. Even though the food is incredible, the business-side is tanking. I’ll be interested in seeing if that’s the same pitch that’ll be used by marketing to sell the book to readers. Make no mistake, Lewisohn is a fan, and has been all his life. At least not to the depth the subject deserves. So far, few, if any, historians have taken on the subject, treating it as worthy of serious, scholarly study. They are written by enthusiasts, journalists, people with an agenda or an ax to grind. Mark Lewisohn’s case is simple: Yes, there are many Beatles biographies in the world. Does the world need another book about Star Wars, or another biblical commentary, or another book on learning Spanish, or another cook book, or another fantasy novel? There are so many books in the world, each new one ought to make a case for its existence, a reason why we should consume our precious time reading it. I think that’s a perfectly legitimate question, and one that should be asked before anyone ventures into a writing project treading already-well-trodden ground. Yet another book about The Beatles? There are literally hundreds of books, maybe thousands, about the Fab Four. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Pastis comic![]() ![]() One day, I just stuck one of the pigs with the rat.
